Hi Jen. I just found out that my 10 1/2 yr old dog Tasha has Hemangiosarcoma. It was in her spleen which was removed a week ago Saturday. I am debating what to do next. She seems very healthy and is quickly recovering from the surgury. They didn't see any other tumors but since the rupture, it's sure to have spread, just not sure where yet. I am debating doing Chemo (i figure why not try it) but also want to try holistic approach and have been reading up. Would love to hear what the holistic dr. says on your end. I hear of a doctor here in LA and I'm going to make an appointment. Good luck to you.

My 10/12 year old dog also has hemangiosarcoma in a rear leg. We're considering neoplasene (bloodroot). Have you looked into this? I can't seem to find experiences of it with hemangiosarcoma, though it has been quite effective on other cancers.

Okay, I hope I'm doing this right. Wendy and Allison I wish you much luck with your dogs. Basically, right now I'm primarily focusing on nutrition and slowly weening Dozer off of commercial food, even though we feed a good quality food. No carbs or grains at all! Meat, veggies, some fruits and eggs, tofu, cheeses. Plus supplements, Chinese herbs, immune support (CAS), digestive enzymes and fish oils. I almost went with Chemo too, b/c I was so scared, but the more I read it just wasn't right for Dozer.

Allison,

As for Neoplasene for treatment of hemangiosarcoma I will get back to you. Our next appointment is July 28th and the vet was planning on doing some research regarding this for us. I will tell you that she has used Neoplasene successfully on her cat though, so she could confirm that what they say is true.

Wendy, did you go with the chemo? How's Tasha doing?

Allison, hows your dog doing?

I start chemo on Saturday. I'm very nervous. I'll let you guys know how it goes. If she gets really sick, i'll just stop. Why did you decide not to do the chemo? Tasha's been doing great since the surgery. You wouldn't even know she has a thing wrong with her. I also started a holistic diet. I've been feeding her organic brown rice, chicken, and various herbs/vitamins and she LOVES it!

Good luck. I hope it all goes well.

The reason I didn't decide to go with the chemo and amputation was b/c he was only given 6 months to a year to live if we did. He has bad hips and I didn't think he would do well with one bad hip supporting all his weight. Plus, he took a long time to heal from the surgery to remove the lump. It just didn't seem fair to him. So, I began researching holistic treatments and it just felt right so that's the course we decided to pursue. I still plan to follow up with a conventional veterinarian, though.

Again, good luck. Let me know how it goes. I will keep my fingers crossed.
